How to settle public housing (HDB) of a deceased

In Singapore, most of us are encouraged to own our own homes. And for a good majority of us, we start our family by buying our first HDB flat together with our spouse.

About 80% of Singapore's resident population live in HDB flats and about 90% of these resident households own their HDB flat. There are also some who lives in private properties but own and rent out their HDB flats.

But what happens to the HDB when the owner passes away and hows does it affect the eligibility of the remaining family or single occupier to retain the flat? What are some of the misconception?
